Business situation

A client's business generates foreign-currency flows. Their exposures change constantly as underlying transactions, positions and market rates move. Some clients hedge actively; others hedge only when prompted.

The institution would like to identify emerging hedging requirements early — before the client raises them, and before the exposure becomes a problem.

Why existing systems struggle

The signals are fragmented:

  • exposure changes are visible in position systems;
  • the client's hedging history and preferences live in CRM and trade records;
  • currency movements live in market data;
  • the client's wider portfolio context lives in portfolio systems.

A position system can show that an exposure has changed. It cannot show why the change matters to this particular client, or that the client has historically hedged similar situations.

How connected context changes the picture

Connected through a dynamic client context, an exposure change is interpreted in its full business situation:

  • What changed — the exposure movement and the market move behind it;
  • Who it affects — the specific client and their portfolio;
  • Why it matters — the client's hedging history, preferences and risk profile;
  • What to do — a hedging conversation with the evidence already assembled.

The same data, connected, answers the commercial question: this client has a new hedging requirement emerging — here is why, and here is how we have helped them before.

Potential business outcome

  • Hedging needs surfaced before the client raises them;
  • Stronger, more proactive risk advisory;
  • Additional transaction flow from hedging activity;
  • A repeatable pattern for every exposure change across the client base.
